Or just the beginning ...So here I am at the end of this little journey to self discovery. I've learned a bit and discovered some things that I didn't know before.

I can't really think of anything that would help improve this format. Oh, other than I really really hate flicker. Like seriously, I do not like the way it works. I like Photobucket way more. Much easier to use and I can send pictures from my iPhone directly to my Photobucket account. It does sound stupid) AKA:#22 Media and Book Downloads (or "You are almost done!")For this I chose Overdrive. I've been lax in messing around with it and that seems to be the one most asked about by patrons.

I chose to look for the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and found quite a few types including a graphic novel and the radio show.

Downloading the book itself is easy and a PDF file can be read on pretty much anything. I can really see a library revolutionized by digital books.

I have a dream and that dream is that some day a patron can walk into the lobby of a library, plug their electronic device into a terminal and download whatever item they are looking for in the entire world and walk out. Obviously they could still request a physical copy from the stacks if they'd like.

The only thing really stopping this is the limit of copies that can be checked out. Since 2.0 is a version number that would imply that there would eventually be a Web 2.1 or Web 2.75 which is idiotic since the web is changing so rapidly from day to day. This also implies that the previous version of the Web was 1.0 which is impossible since the only thing that could be called Web version 1.0, the original US military system that allowed base communication, in no way resembles what we have today, or even a decade ago. Web 89234.0 might be a bit closer to the mark yet still untrue by a long way.

Library 2.0 also feels to me to be a cop out. Libraries should, by their nature, cater to the needs of their patrons. This means updating their procedures and technology throughout the years. (Also it fits nicely into this lesson of the library class :P)

I'm an avid war gamer. I specifically play a table top war game called Warhammer 40,000, which is a sci-fi game set in the distant future. (The 41st millennium to be exact)

This is pretty much my major hobby, next to playing my xbox 360, and interpreting the 1820's to visitors of Fort Atkinson State Historical Park.

Anyway, the picture above (or below? I'm new to this...) is of a diorama I made for a friend. It features an Imperial Guardsman, the straight average joe in the game, having to face the tough choice of whether to confront a mob of one of the Imperium's most prevalent enemies, the orks, or turn and run, only to be shot by his own regiment's commissar, who's job it is to ensure that not a single warrior of the Emperor shows cowardice.

Well that's a pretty good synopsis. I assembled and painted the models myself and I've always been quite proud of it.
Gflinthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02010143995619878009noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4099633415010258327.post-35215292025301414052008-09-16T15:08:00.001-07:002008-09-16T15:17:20.600-07:00Library Fun! AKA #3 Get blogging in 3 stepsHello world.

Well that's a good first sentence. Let's start with that. Let's see, now what? Well I'm doing this blog as part of a library program so I guess I'll learn how to do most of this as I go.

I'm also supposed to talk about what life long learning means to me. Well, I'm currently in school to become a secondary education major. I plan to teach history while I pursue a doctorate in archaeology. That pretty much guarantees that I'll be continuing to learn new information throughout the rest of my natural life. I accepted this fact quite a long time ago, of maybe when I was seven. It's a very liberating fact to know something like that from that age on. Makes future choices much easier.

I think that's a good first post. Let's end it there.Gflinthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02010143995619878009noreply@blogger.com1
